A surrogate mother is a woman who carries and gives birth to a child for another person or couple, known as the intended parents, with the agreement that she will relinquish the child to them after birth. This arrangement is often used when the intended parents are unable to conceive or carry a pregnancy to term themselves. There are two main types of surrogacy: traditional surrogacy, where the surrogate is also the biological mother, and gestational surrogacy, where the surrogate is not genetically related to the child.
